How to cure a plantar wart naturally

Do a quick Google search and you will find unlimited advice on home remedies for plantar warts.

The tips range from applying fresh garlic, to mixing a poultice of crushed up aspirin.

And then there’s the classic: cover it with duct tape.

How do I know this? Because a few months ago I had a bad mommy moment. I realized that the teeny, tiny plantar wart on my five year old daughter’s foot had somehow grown into a painful, throbbing mass…

Did you know: that in cultures where people regularly go barefoot, plantar warts are virtually unheard of? It is thought that walking barefoot toughens the skin and keeps it dry, while the friction of walking actually wears the virus off!
A plantar wart is actually a skin lesion caused by the human papilloma virus. Although some people have them for years and never experience any discomfort, in others, like my five year old daughter, the wart forms a callous and becomes tender and painful.

In fact, in my daughter’s case, it had become so painful that it was making her cry at night. *cringe*.

It. Was. Serious.

Still, rather than rush to the doctor, we opted to look for a natural remedy.

We looked at things like:

  • A raw garlic application: Rejected. We love garlic around here. Seriously. Big fans. But a friend advised against this after suffering a skin burn/severe irritation when they kept garlic on their skin too long. And my daughter just wasn’t going for it.
  • Crushed aspirin poultice: Rejected. I didn’t want to apply aspirin (known to cause Reye’s syndrome in children) to my daughter’s skin.
  • Apple cider vinegar foot bath Tried. Major effort (you try get a five year old to sit still for 15 minutes twice a day) and no visible results after 2 weeks…

The remedy that did work is so easy, anyone can do it.

It was shared by another momma.

And since it has now been used successfully on at least three children, I figure we’ve pretty much done clinical trials.

Here it is:

Apply a couple of drops of undiluted essential oil of lemon directly to the plantar wart in the morning and evening.

That’s it. Seriously. Even if you forget and just do it once a day, it will still work.

I know, right? Perfect for mommas and kids who have got alot on the go…

LEMON

My observations: the essential oil began to attack and ‘eat’ the root of the plantar wart (almost immediately). It created a bit of a hole (that my daughter didn’t complain about at all) until it reached, exposed, and killed the black roots of the plantar wart.

Here’s another amazing part: The skin around the wart stayed completely intact and healthy.

Within 2-3 weeks, the wart was completely gone. Without a trip to the doctor to ‘burn’ it off with liquid nitrogen (ouch!).

Without using any yucky medicated bandaids.

That’s what I call easy peasy lemon squeezy!

    Hi

Thank you for this!!! I’ve been trying different home remedies and my sons warts are slowly going away, but after 3 weeks of doing the home remedies, they are nowhere near gone. I will try the lemon essential oil. After applying the oil, did you cover the spots with band aid? Or did you just leave the warts exposed? Thank you.

I’ve never had a wart until this one.. a plantar wart on the ball of my foot! I’ve been to the doctor and had it cut out and then frozen but of course it came back. I would like to try the essential oil but was wondering if you left the wart exposed or if you covered it after applying the lemon essential oil? Thanks!

According to this article, you do cover the area with a bandaid (what Brits call a plaster) after application of the oil(s) (the article gives a list of essential oils that work, including tea tree and thyme as well as lemon). http://aromamuse.com/2010/08/16/how-to-annihilate-a-plantar-wart/

I’ve tried everything, consistently for two years to get rid of them. Over this last summer I had forgotten about treatment and decided to just live with the darn things. But weirdly enough, I got out of the shower a few days ago and realized one of my 15+ warts on my foot had turned white. I grabbed onto it and it just came right off (normal skin underneath). I thought it was a fluke, but realized over the next couple weeks that the same thing was happening to all of them, even two common warts that were on my thumb. I guess over time, even if no treatments work, your body will eventually fix the problem too hopefully. I’m completely wart free now 😀

These threads have been a good source of information. Its good to see there are so many options for natural and homemade recipes. Thanks. I tried the essential oils mentioned on this site and a few others, and they worked very well. I discovered premixed oils, wart-thwart.com, so you don’t have to buy all the oils individually and mix yourself, which was a bit expensive. My daughter is 8 and her hand warts completely went away in about 10 days. Hope this helps.

I was skeptical but eventually became desperate enough to give it a try, after exhausting all other options I could think of and researched. The extract from this amazing and readily available herb works amazingly against all infections and viruses, and heals the skin very quickly. I struggled against a plantar wart for half a year, trying various remedies. It grew to the size of a thumb and I could barely walk. This oil ate it up in ten days flat. A friend tried it and said it cured his athletes foot within three days. It can cure cancer and seemingly any ailment. Word needs to get out about this.

Thank you for this post. I just got a plantar wart with two tiny nodules nearby that I suspect were warts in the making overnight two days ago. I saw your post and decided to try this instead of going to the doc for the “nuclear option” the day they popped up. I put lemon oil on them that night and put a couple of bandaids over the wart and nodules soaked with lemon oil, then again the following morning. When I took the bandaids off the next night (24 hours after the first application), the wart was starting to turn black and the nodules had shrunk! I’m now at less than 48 hours after the first application and the wart is fully black and starting to dry out a bit and I can barely feel the nodules. THANK YOU for posting this!!!!

Hey! I was able to get rid of a big plantar wart that I struggled with for over 2 years by using a few primary methods. 1. duct tape 24/7 for about 3 weeks straight or so. 2. Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) soaks every day and 3. regular salicylic acid pads (which didn’t work for me until I started using the other 2 methods along with it). It’s not completely gone! I have before and after photos on the blog I made about the journey if you would like to check it out! Anyway, just thought I’d share as I know how annoying these things can be.

P.S. I tried a lot of other things that helped as well. One was oregano oil.

Hi there, I’m going to try this. I started to get a little pinpoint plantar wart a while back and ignored it (gahhh!) and now it’s gotten a bit bigger and to the point where it’s uncomfortable walking in certain shoes. So, I bought the oil, and have tried a couple times to put it on with a q-tip – letting the tip get soaked and then touching it to the spot, but I can’t tell if any is transferring onto my skin. I tried pouring one little drop – lol, that worked well :) (it went everywhere, though I was able to concentrate and rub a fair amount of it into the right spot). So just wondering – how exactly are you applying it? Q-tip? Perhaps a better pouring technique than I employed? Maybe I just need practice? Thanks!

Hubby just came home with a plantar wart, I’m going to try the lemon oil. Just a couple drops on the pad of a band aid. I think I have oregano oil too, maybe even thyme. Hope it works!

I used pure tea trea oil and that did the trick. I applied it on a band aid twice a day. Also I used an anti fungal soap with tea tree oil and other essential oils. I think the time that it takes to get rid of these things depends on your immune system. This is a form of HPV so you need to understand it’s a viral thing. However it occurs when the pathogens in your body are hard at work. This is something that can always come back so dont forget to change your socks and wash your feet, and eat healthy of course. I haven’t tried this method but my suspicion is that the acidity of the lemon will do a nice job fighting the wart. Hope everyone gets healthy and wealthy :)

I have been using the lemon oil on my 6 year old son for about 3 weeks now. I have not seen much change. Is there anything else I can give him to maybe help boost this along? His hands are covered in WARTS…on our last trip to the dermatologist, they counted over 30 warts on his hands.

I have had a planters wart on the inside of my toe for years, It doesn’t usually bother me unless i ware dress shoes with heels, Lucky I wear tennis shoes to work. I found myself out shopping yesterday in dress shoes, it was hurting so bad I actually took my shoes off while shopping on the carpeted area of Target. I found a Vitamin World, went in a bought a bottle of Aura Cacia lemon oil, when back out the car, took my shoe off and dabbed the oil on the wart. I put my shoe back on and shopped for a couple more hours pain free! I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked at taking the pain away. I plan to continue treatment but at this point I don’t care if the wart stays or goes if all I have to do is dab it with lemon oil to be able to wear heels again!

I had a planter wart on the ball of my foot. I got it burned off by my dermatologist, but it of course came back! It grew steadily to about a dime size and was so painful I could hardly walk and much less do well with sports(how embarrassing!) so I had to do something! I put lemon on it morning and night and trimmed off as much wart as possible with fingernail trimmers. Some days, I would put the lemon on a bandaid and keep it on for the day when the right shoes would permit. Eventually after about 2-3 weeks, the blood vessels turned black while the rest turned brown. I took the dirt remover on the fingernail trimmer and peeled the wart back. Half the wart came off, and the rest came without much bleeding a few days after. This process was painless and so far my wart has not come back! Thanks for your info!

Plantar warts can be so stubborn! My brother had terrible plantar warts for two years and nothing would work. He tried everything! Then he used Wart Paste (which is a blend of essential oils and minerals) and within weeks his warts started disappearing. If yours are stubborn or come back, you should try it! Their website is http://www.wartpaste.com

My 4 year old had a plantars wart for months! I tried EVERY home remedy out there, which she hated because they were stinky. The wart had started to spread so she had a patch of 5, and the lemon essential oil got rid of them all. I was AMAZED!! I had just made a well check up appointment two weeks out when I ran across your blog because I just couldn’t get rid of them. They were gone by her appointment. Thank you for sharing!!

I really hope this works, I’ve been living with one for months and I’ve had to change my foot posture to avoid walking directly on the sole of my foot, because of the excruciating pain. My mom doesn’t believe in natural remedies but I’m trying to convince her to just try it and find some because in terrified at the idea of freezing it off, had to do that once for something else and it was horrendous. And knowing that it could grow back even after that… So I’m really praying for this, I hope to prove to her that natural remedies aren’t a scam and I’m just hoping for it all to be over, I’m so tired of dealing with this.
What troubles me is that I did research and it seems it’s caused by HPV? Isn’t that like a serious disease? And also that warts are supposed to be contagious, because I’ve definitely touched it.
